West Wood Remake Seasons
The original game already had rain badges and power outages. The remake adds a calendar. Discord sneak peeks showed spring and summer as more than tinted trees: a HUD that tracks thirst, hunger, heat, and a blizzard that can freeze anyone who treats Alberta like a sidewalk. This page is the seasonal layer on top of weather.
Westwood, Alberta is the joke and the design. A town this far from help should punish clothing choices, sprint addiction, and the belief that trees are decoration. Environment 1 already promised more varied, natural terrain and a rebuilt yellow house. Later Discord footage added the calendar: spring, summer, and the rest of the obvious year, plus meters that make food and water part of the night instead of a badge afterthought.
What the HUD is trying to tell you
The season sneak peek was also a UI sneak peek. Players saw a circle for the equipped medallion, then health, stamina, thirst, and hunger. Community writeups added a hot bar and a cold bar: heat asks you to drink and stop burning stamina, cold asks you to get inside, use a chimney, or cook something so the food is not a frozen brick. A breathing bar was rumored for hiding. If your server shows fewer bars, play the ones that exist. Do not invent a cookbook the oven does not support. See the HUD page for the layout and cooking for the oven.
Environment 1 is the visual argument for seasons even before the calendar shipped: terrain that is no longer a flat horror hallway, a yellow house rebuilt instead of copy-pasted, and a town that wants to look lived-in while remaining empty. Dust in interiors from Environment 2 does the same job. You are not in a lobby. You are in a climate.
How to route a seasonal night
- Heat: shorter outdoor sprints, more water, no scenic warehouse. Stamina is the first thing summer steals.
- Cold: chimneys and cooked food matter. The blizzard short is the extreme version — stay warm or freeze.
- Rain: quieter footsteps lie; stay for How Melancholic… and keep lights honest.
- Outage: information dies. Cameras and headlamps become jobs, not toys.
- Blood Moon on any season: coffee first, contracts later. Seasons do not cancel Ravager.
House choice changes with the calendar. Far plots 11 and 12 were already stamina traps in clear weather. In a freeze they are a dare. House 2 remains a poor bedroom. Civic buildings still have the silhouettes Jerry likes. Use the night planner after you see the sky, not before spawn, so the season is an input instead of a surprise. Pair this page with food so the hunger bar is a shopping list, not a morality lecture.
If a patch adds fall colors and nothing else, this page will shrink. Until then, play West Wood as a body simulator attached to a Wendigo. The original already wanted you melancholic in the rain. The remake wants you thirsty in July and slow in January. That is the whole seasonal thesis, and it is enough to stop treating the town like a racing map.
Calendar as a status effect
If your squad still argues medallions before looking up, you will buy stamina into a heat wave. Look at the sky, then the bars, then the dealer. Food and cooking are seasonal tools. Houses that were fine in spring become dares in a freeze. The planner already nags about blizzard and Blood Moon; add heat as a reason to cut the warehouse even when snow is absent.
Frequently asked questions
Short answers before you queue.
Can I ignore seasons as a veteran?
Not if thirst and cold bars exist. Veterans die of pride in summer just like newcomers die of House 2.
Do seasons rotate per server?
Treat the sky as local. The planner cannot see it. You can.
Is Blood Moon a season?
No. It is an event overlay. Coffee still wins. See Blood Moon.
Where are chimneys?
Interiors. Walk houses at dusk. Far plots will freeze you on the walk back.
Does rain count as a season?
Rain is weather with a badge. Seasons are the calendar under it.
